AQUEDUCT - 3/24/14

Race 1-

1. THE RHYTHMISRIGHT

2. SIDEARM

3. LET’S DISCUSS

#6 THE RHYTHMISRIGHT appears to be the lone speed in this compact field. He looks to rebound after failing as the favorite last time out in a race where his chances were compromised by the racetrack. The winner of that heat, Bass River Road, raced over the gold rail, which helped his cause. A frontrunner trip will make this Mike Hushion trainee very tough to beat. #1 SIDEARM rallied nicely to snag the place dough in the same race that the top pick exits. This colt was also against the grain of the racetrack and he has quietly had a productive winter. With a pace battle, his chances will improve. #2 LET’S DISCUSS moves up in class after checking in 2nd in a softer open claimer. He is another who is at his best when he can settle and make one run, and he’ll come from a more forward position than Sidearm.

Race 2-

1. TAYLOR JAGGER

2. E Z PASSER

3. MESS IN A DRESS

#3 TAYLOR JAGGER returns off a brief break after being claimed by David Jacobson. This barn is 21% with runners going first off of claims exiting wins and returning in 45-75 days ($2.99 ROI). The other potential edge this filly possesses is that she has the tactical speed to stay close early in a race short on pace. #1 E Z PASSER has been at her best sprinting, but she has also run respectably around two turns on this surface. Drawn nicely inside, she was compromised by the racetrack in her last and will offer value for low percentage connections. #4 MESS IN A DRESS was claimed out of her Friday start, which she won comfortably from just off the pace. A similar trip is in the offing today, and this barn has obviously done quite well at the claim box in recent months.

Race 3-

1. SARATOGA SHOES

2. MLLE. MINUIT

3.STORIED LADY

#3 SARATOGA SHOES was wide the entire way on a surface where the rail was very strong back on March 3. She has the tactical speed to stay within range from the start, and the main speed in this race is drawn inside. With additional improvement, she’ll be very tough to beat in this spot. #5 MLLE. MINUIT received a head-scratching ride in her last and now gets a needed jockey change. She is a late runner who’ll benefit if the pace is respectable, and she was also up against it in terms of how the track played and where she did her running last time. #2 STORIED LADY chased the pace 2-wide before tiring late in the race that’s common among 3 of the 5 runners in this field. She will be better off if able to take back and make one run, which is also the trip with which Taylor Rice is most comfortable.

Race 4-

1. THRILL HILL

2. MIDNIGHT MISSILE

3. TAX ALEX

#3 THRILL HILL was claimed for 25k last time out by Bruce Levine and returns at the same level. He endured a brutal trip that afternoon, breaking slowly before rushing up along the dead rail on that sloppy track. A cleaner trip for this higher percentage barn will make him tough to handle. #8 MIDNIGHT MISSILE drops in for a tag for the first time and exits a poor performance where he raced against the grain of the track. The outside post is ideal and the removal of blinkers should help him settle and make one run, which he did when successful in his 2nd start. #2 TAX ALEX returns off a lengthy break for Rick Violette, Jr., who has a respectable record with this type of runners. The inside post will put him under the gun from the start, but this is the right class level and he proved on debut he has some ability.

Race 5-

1. SO BLESSED

2. JACOBSON ENTRY

3. ABSOLUTE PARADISE

The rail was the best part of the racetrack when #4 SO BLESSED made her last start, and she was wide every step of the way. This is her 3rd start off al layoff, and the competition she meets today is softer than what she has in her last few. Look for her in the waning stages under apprentice Emmanuel Esquivel. #1 JULESCO is the one to catch as she drops back in for a tag for trainer David Jacobson. She has had a productive winter, but allowance company has proven to be too tough. Her stablemate, #1A QUIET SUNSHINE, can also lay close in the opening stages and is in good form at the moment as well. #7 ABSOLUTE PARADISE was a clear 2nd last time out, three lengths ahead of the top pick. The outside post is ideal for this daughter of Any Given Saturday, as she does her best running from stalk and pounce territory.

Race 6-

1. SHINNECOCK BAY

2. MIGHTY ZEALOUS

3. WORTH WILD

#8 SHINNECOCK BAY got the worst of it post position-wise on debut and now draws favorably on the outside. He showed good speed in his unveiling before tiring late, showing enough potential to be considered a major threat today. It’s worth noting as well that trainer Tom Albertrani is 19% with 2nd time starters in MSW races on dirt, good for a $2.47 ROI. #1 MIGHTY ZEALOUS exits the same race as Shinnecock Bay, and this gelding ran quite well with a less than ideal trip. A slow break put him well back of the early leaders, but he finished up well to round out the superfecta. Trainer Linda Rice is also very good with 2nd timers in MSW races on dirt ,as she is 25% with a $2.22 ROI. #7 WORTH WILD is by 11% debut sire Offlee Wild and is out of a dam who won once in a brief career. She has dropped five winners, including Dagnabit and Darwin, both of whom won on debut. That’s enough to give this colt a second look in here.

Race 7-

1. FIRST PENNY

2. INAFLASH

3. PHILIPPIS

#6 FIRST PENNY has strung together four strong performances, the most recent of which came when she ran against the race flow by chasing a hot pace and still finishing well. Her inability to win is disconcerting, but this is the right type of rider for her and she will be forwardly placed in this affair. #4 INAFLASH is back in for a tag as her form begins to slide the wrong direction. This gal has been facing considerably tougher foes and is a win candidate for that reason alone. #2 PHILIPPIS makes her first start for trainer Gary Gullo after being conditioned for one race by the late Dominic Galluscio. She is cutting back in distance and is deserving of another chance sprinting after failing while racing wide against the grain of the track in her last.

Race 8-

1. ANTIPATHY

2. MISS DA POINT

3. NATALIE VICTORIA

#1 ANTIPATHY ships up from Gulfstream after defeating softer competition in her last start over a wet track. That was her first start off a lengthy layoff, and she stalked a solid pace before pulling clear late. The fact that she improved off the bench is encouraging, as she has the upside to move forward again today. #4 MISS DA POINT set a fast pace as her rider’s saddle slipped last time out, and she now moves back into open company in her second start off a layoff. She is comfortable rating just off the pace and the rival two doors to her inside will be on the engine today. #2 NATALIE VICTORIA has raced with the grain of the racetrack in her last two starts, and that has led to marked improvement. She’ll be on the lead today with her normal early speed and it’s hard to argue with her recent form.

Race 9-

1. KISSED AND MISSED

2. CAMP FLOYD

3. GO TO THE NET

#4 KISSED AND MISSED crossed the wire first in his last start, only to be disqualified and placed 2nd for interference in the lane. He now towers over his rivals on paper and figures to be in control of this race from the opening bell. #2 CAMP FLOYD endured a tough trip in his last start, which was his first ever on dirt. He was stuck behind rivals and steadied repeatedly before tiring late. The positive element is that he can build on that race and will be a fair price today. #7 GO TO THE NET rallied well in the race where Kissed and Missed was disqualified. This 6YO has no early speed, but can lay back and make one run today in a race where the pace will be respectable.
